The dream of El Patio began in 1969, when Francisco and Lidia Amador immigrated to the United States from Zacatecas, Mexico. After settling in North Hollywood, California, Francisco began working in the restaurant industry while Lidia worked in the laundry department at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

In 1988, their dream became a reality when they opened the first El Patio on Township Avenue. Francisco was the cook, Lidia was the hostess, and their son, Eddie, was the busboy. Still living in North Hollywood, the family made the daily commute to Simi Valley, determined to build something of their own.

With the help of their family and loyal staff, El Patio began to grow. Just two years later, in 1990, the second location opened at the corner of Los Angeles Avenue and Tapo Street.

From the beginning, the goal was simple: provide quality service and fresh, authentic Mexican food while treating every guest like family.

Today, 38 years later, that goal remains at the heart of El Patio. The Amador family continues to fully own and operate both locations, proudly carrying on the tradition that Francisco and Lidia started in 1988.
